Курение приводит к отложению никотина на поверхности корня (42). Наличие никотина на поверхности корня нарушает морфологические характеристики фибробластов (43). Курильщики, по сравнению с некурящими, имеют большую глубину остаточного кармана после периодонтальной операции (44). В идеале, пациенты, нуждающиеся в периодонтальном хирургическом вмешательстве, должны полностью бросить курить. Если это невозможно, курение должно быть прекращено на срок полного заживления операционной раны (приблизительно 6-8 недель).
