The Center of Urgent Psychological Assistance
The Center of urgent psychological assistance was created on 17 September, 1999. The center has independent status within the Ministry. The main tasks of the center are: – to provide management of the Psychological Service of the Russian MChS* – to provide psychological support of the professional activities of the staff of the Russian MChS – to provide psychological support to victims in crisis situations through the telephone hotline. Currently, work in the center is conducted in 4 areas: 1. Psycho-diagnostic (participation in measures related to the professional selection of candidates, post-expeditionary inspection, psychological monitoring, certification measures). 2. Psychological training (development of psychological training programmes, lectures, training exercises for the staff of the Russian MChS, educational and methodological seminars, and continuing education courses). 3. Rehabilitation (psychological correction, consulting, the psychological component of rehabilitation measures). 4. Psychological support of emergency rescue and other urgent work (provision of urgent psychological assistance to victims in disaster areas, psychological support of victims in crisis situations through the telephone hotline). Employees of the Center of Urgent Psychological Assistance of the Russian MChS are involved in disaster relief following all large disasters. Employees of the center take part in international training exercises related to civil defense and disasters, as well as in international, national and inter-departmental scientific and practical conferences, educational and methodological meetings, symposiums and seminars. The center offers regular courses for the continuing education of employees of the Psychological Service of the Russian MChS through the “Psychological Support of Disaster Relief efforts” programme. Methodological literature including practical manuals and instructions related to diagnostics and psychological training is developed and published. The center collaborates with educational and scientific institutions of the Russian MChS and with other departments in accordance with** its field of specialization.
