Osteoporosis - a systemic skeletal disease.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), 30-50 percent of women over age 50 have osteoporosis - a systemic skeletal disease. It is found that the frequency of fractures is four to seven times higher in women than men of the same age group. Forty percent of women have at least one bone fracture caused by this disease at the age of 70. So far no epidemiological researches have been conducted and fundamental cause of osteoporosis is still not clear enough. The advanced form of osteoporosis — is the so-called "widow's" hump, which is a curvature of the spine in the thoracic region.
The most dangerous fractures, which occur with osteoporosis - are the fractures of the femoral neck, the mortality rate in this case is 25 percent in the first six months after the fracture, and invalidity happens in 45 percent of cases.
The main goal of therapy is prevention of fractures. Non-drug therapies include breaking bad habits, physical exercises, taking food rich in calcium (cheese, milk). Drug therapy for osteoporosis — is a hormonal therapy, which should be started simultaneously with the first climacteric symptoms. According to doctors, this allows to reduce the incidence of forearm and femoral neck fractures to 50 percent. I can recommend a good medicine Evista (it is used to prevent and treat bone loss (osteoporosis) in women after menopause).
There comes a time for vacations, holidays and travel. Quite often, stuffing our suitcase with all sorts of things we forget about something, which is much more important and necessary than clothing and jewelry. This is a medicine box. Items for this "therapeutic" bag should be selected very seriously and carefully for the following reasons:
• well-known drugs can have different trade names in foreign pharmacies;
• many drugs which can be easily purchased at your nearest drug store, are sold strictly by prescription overseas.
• The cost of the same drug overseas may be more than in your country, sometimes many times more.
Just do not forget that even the most innocuous riding a scooter, for example, can result in tension or injury. Unfortunately, no one is immune from harm. And if you are going to travel with the children, the selection of medicines for your medicine box becomes an essential task. To make your task easier, I suggest to take 11 universal components of the traveler's kit:
1. A standard set for injuries: bandage (regular and elastic), cotton wool, iodine, adhesive medical plaster, Rumalaya gel.
2. Agents for treatment of intestinal infections and diarrhea (Bael, Tinidazole) and Bonnispaz for children.
3. Enzyme preparations (Motilium).
4. Flu and cold medicines (Periactin, Tamiflu, Aspirin).
5. Nasal sprays (Astelin).
6. Antipyretics (Aspirin).
7. Anti-allergic drugs (Astelin, Alavert).
8. Analgesic and antispasmodic, which may be needed for you and your child. A toothache can come at any time, even on holiday (Anacin).
9. It is necessary to have remedy for sunburns in case you or your child get a sunburn(DermaVitol).
10. It is also advisable to have medicine for prevention and treatment of nausea and dizziness which may occur during sea cruises, excursions by boat and sometimes in amusement parks (Meclizine, Dramamine).
11. Thermometer.
Well, we've chosen the necessary medicines. But where to keep them? Often the drugs are stored in plastic bags, that's not correct. It is better to store them in a light, but strong box, which can be easily washed.
Never discard drug leaflet, always read carefully not only about the methods of use and dosage, but also about side effects and contraindications!
Please note that storage conditions of medicine are always specified in the leaflet.
Finally I would like to wish you a wonderful holiday season, and, of course, that neither you nor your children would need to use a medicine box!
