Past Continuous используется для обозначения длительного действия, начавшегося до определенного момента в прошлом и все еще совершавшегося в этот момент:

It was raining.

The children were playing rugby, when I saw them.

Past Continuous не употребляется с глаголами, выражающими чувства, восприятия и умственные состояния: like, love, hate, want, need, prefer, know, realize, suppose, mean, understand, believe, remember, belong, contain, consist, depend, seem.

I needed this photograph. (NOT I was needing this photograph).

I. УТВЕРДИТЕЛЬНАЯ ФОРМА

” + was/were + Ving

I/ he/ she/ it was writ ing.

You/ we/ they were writ ing.

 

II. ВОПРОСИТЕЛЬНАЯ ФОРМА

Was/were + ” +Ving?

Was I/ he/ she/ it writ ing?

Were you/ we/ they writ ing?

III. ОТРИЦАТЕЛЬНАЯ ФОРМА

” + was/were +not+Ving

I/ he/ she/ it was not writ ing.

You/ we/ they were not writ ing.
