About The British Fire Service
(From British Fire Service recruitment pamphlets)
ALL SORTS
The part-time Fire Service welcomes all kinds of people. In their uniform (the same as for a full-time member) you may recognize a good friend, a neighbor, a local shop worker, a secretary _ anyone, in fact, who cares for their community, seeks an active life and is physically fit and enthusiastic enough to work in a team of dedicated people. Is that you? If it is, then why not join them?
PAY
As a part-time fire-fighter you will be paid a retaining fee just for being available, which increases after three years service.
Additionally, you get pays for each call out made. Payments are also made for extra work such as maintenance and for your weekly training attendance. You will lose a little of your free time but you will have more money in your pocket!
TRAINING
A regular two hours' attendance per week during the evening or weekend is necessary for training. You must, after all, be able to handle similar equipment to that used by your full-time colleagues and take on many of the tasks which they do. The skills you acquire will increase your value to your community. You will be better able to protect your family and neighbors. Your employee, too, might find your skills valuable.
