A. Accelerant:

Any evidence potentially containing accelerant should be collected and placed into airtight container. Types of samples might include samples of plaster, rags, upholstery or other substances that may have been penetrated by flammable fluids; debris and soot samples from apprоximаte origin of fire; temperature. Do not accelerate drying with a fan or heater. Mark garment with identification data and package in a paper using additional paper as needed. Do not use plastic bags!

Charred documents. If found in a container, package the entire container and submit to laboratory. If found loose, put cardboard under the document, place in a container partially filled with cotton to restrict movement, package and transport to the laboratory.

Firefingers (latent). Prevent friction of an article in a way to the laboratory.

Fireprints (visible). Photograph and then submit the entire article to the laboratory.

Do not attempt to clean with powder!

Glass. Package in paper, taking care to protect any broken edges. Place wrapped glass in a solid protective container labeled with identification data.

Firearms. Unload the weapon taking care not to ruin possible latent fingerprint evidence. Note manufacturer's name, caliber, model, serial number. Transport the weapon by mounting it on cardboard with string.

Hair and fibers. Place samples in paper. The paper is then placed in an envelope and sealed. The proper identification data are then placed on samples of soil which may have been saturated by flammable liquids. Liquid should be collected in airtight glass bottles onto a clean cloth, sponge, or tissue and placed into an airtight container.

B. Other types of physical evidence should also be carefully collected.
