  9. Theme: Heredity. Types of inheritance. Independent monogenic inheritance of characteristics

2. Purpose:

- Create the students' knowledge about the mechanisms of interaction of genes in the formation of normal and pathological features.

- To develop the motivation of the need to study the interaction of genes as the basismedical analysis of the various manifestations of hereditary diseases

- To develop communication skills in the analysis of hereditary diseases associated with the violation of the mechanisms of interaction of genes

- Develop practical competence by applying knowledge of the mechanisms of interaction of genes in health and disease with solutions to common problems and situation in genetics

3. Learning objectives:

- Explain the nature of genetic concepts - genotype, phenotype, and allelic nonallelic genes

- To reveal the genetic mechanisms of development of external (phenotypic, clinical) symptoms in healthy individuals and patients with hereditary diseases

- Show the role of allelic and nonallelic interaction of genes in the development of normal and abnormal phenotypic traits

- Explain the need for knowledge of the types and mechanisms of interaction of genes in organism (genotype) patients to understand and explain the clinical signs of the some hereditary diseases in medical practice

- Represent the allele on chromosomes and genes are nonallelic

4. Key questions the theme:

4.1. Genotype, phenotype: the definition, the relationship.

4.2. Interaction of alleles of genes: complete dominance, incomplete dominance, overdominance, codominative

4.3. Multiple alleles. Genetics of the ABO blood group system. Medical value.

4.4. Interaction of nonallelic genes, complementary, epistasis, polymers.

4.5. Penetrance and expressivity. Pleiotropy.

4.6. The role and significance of the interaction of genes in the development of phenotypic traits.

5. Teaching methods: oral questioning aimed at clarifying the understanding of the nature of student goals and objectives of the training, skills, short, clear, logically presented and the ability to depict the digested material in the form of charts, graphs, drawings, testing and subsequent analysis of errors in the work group: an explanation and demonstration solving problems, filling schemes.
